Food is any substance, usually composed of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and water, that can be eaten or drunk by an animal or human for nutrition or pleasure. Items considered food may be sourced from plants, animals or other categories such as fungus or fermented products like alcohol. Although many human cultures sought food items through hunting and gathering, today most cultures use farming, ranching, and fishing, with hunting, foraging and other methods of a local nature included but playing a minor role. Most traditions have a recognizable cuisine, a specific set of cooking traditions, preferences, and practices, the study of which is known as gastronomy. Many cultures have diversified their foods by means of preparation, cooking methods and manufacturing. This also includes a complex food trade which helps the cultures to economically survive by-way-of food, not just by consumption. Many cultures study the dietary analysis of food habits. While humans are omnivores, religion and social constructs such as morality often affect which foods they will consume. Food safety is also a concern with foodborne illness claiming many lives each year. In many languages, food is often used metaphorically or figuratively, as in "food for thought". Q. We have been feeding our new cat canned food because that is what the shelter said she preffered. However, we just got back from the vet and learned she has gingivitis. I have also heard that most canned food is essentially the same thing as giving your pets junk food or candy. What's the answer? Asked by Troy - Fri Aug 31 00:20:52 2007 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments A. Actually feeding both is best. The vet I worked at fed a little canned food and free fed dry through out the day... Canned food is not like candy. It is high in meat content and is good for them, but they need the dry to clean their teeth. Hope that helps! Answered by Gina @ Sand Castle Alapahas - Fri Aug 31 00:32:08 2007 How much food should we feed our 3 month old kitten? Q. She is only 3 months old, but she always meows for food. The bag of food says to give her 1/3 cup but is that per day or per feeding time? We would like to feed her twice a day, but we don't know how much to feed her and she is already starting to get a little chubby. She also tries to eat the dog food when she has none. Also, is Neutro a good brand? Thank you for your help! Asked by Daniel W - Wed Oct 8 11:34:55 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. The recommended serving is the total amount to feed a cat per day. Since she is still a baby, break that 1/3 cup into a couple of smaller meals a day. Don't give her 1/3 cup each serving. You'll wind up with a chunky cat. Q. Genetically modified food Question! How do they decide what food to use and what to change? Asked by Chris D - Mon Dec 8 19:09:22 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. GMO's basically depend on how easy it is to manipulate the plant's genetic code. For example, canola is pretty viable for transgenic therapy, but certain other plants are more resistant. Based on supply and shortage also, we can decide what we need. Answered by WarburgEffect - Mon Dec 8 19:20:35 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "food" |
